Abstract

Poverty refers to the state in which individuals are unable to fulfill their fundamental necessities, such as food, clothing, and housing. In Indonesia, poverty remains a persistent and significant challenge year after year, particularly in regions like West Java Province. Despite a reduction in the poverty population in West Java during 2023, the figures have yet to reach the targets established by the provincial authorities. This study delves into how Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT), the Human Development Index (HDI), and total population contribute to poverty levels across West Java. Drawing on 2023 secondary data sourced from the Central Statistics Agency of West Java Province, the analysis adopts a multiple linear regression approach. Results indicate that GRDP, HDI, and population size are all positively correlated with poverty incidence, suggesting that despite existing initiatives, the region's economic capacity and human development strategies have yet to be effectively leveraged in mitigating poverty. In contrast, the unemployment rate does not appear to exert a meaningful influence on poverty levels within the province.
